Part 7, in which I must take a stand
If I had to see it, I’m making you see it too
It’s cold right now in San Francisco as it typically is, though we do have warmer days. In my room to the front of our apartment I have a small space heater that only provides warmth to my lower half, but it’s enough. I frequently keep a jacket on to trap my own body heat and that gets me by.
As you may or may not have seen on Twitter, I recently changed the way I think about my tv show idea, such that what I had previously plotted to be 10 episodes has now shrunk to 5. This means I have a lot of thinking to do about the overall arc of the entire show from season to season. Because I’m thinking about this thing as a multiple-season arc with an actual ending. I don’t want to make the same mistake so many shows do, where they had an idea for a show, had a great first season, but clearly hadn’t thought far enough ahead to how it will end.
I’m hoping this show will be popular enough to have 5 seasons, and the way I’ve conceived it, it could have spin-offs. I’m aware this is getting FAR ahead of myself, but I’m tired of shows that don’t feel well thought-out. I want this to feel like one story, instead of a season-to-season thing. And if that means I don’t actually start writing a script until it’s all plotted out, then so be it.
Never forget.
Unearthed, and it feels so good
And I’m back to doing the Unearthed series on ComicsBreakdown.com! Honestly, I’ve really missed it. It serves two purposes: lets me re-read these classic comics that I loved back in the day, and lets me introduce them to people who may never even have heard of them. It’s looking like I’ll do two episodes a week, but I’m not holding myself to any kind of regular cadence. It’s not like I’m making money from this.
I designed this for my son’s Lacrosse team. I thought it was pretty good, and certainly better than what they had.
What I’m reading
Doing Comics Breakdown again has put me back on reading comics. I finally found an excellent comics reader that lets me zoom in enough to read the text while still seeing most of the page without having to pan around or scroll. So I’m catching up on a lot of comics I’d only ever heard about.
Right now I’m inhaling Kieron Gillen’s “The Wicked + The Divine”. What a premise! Every 90 years, a number of humans are selected to be the physical hosts for divine entities. We’re talking cross-pantheon gods here: Lucifer, Amaterasu, Inanna, the Morrigan, Woden, etc. After two years, these humans/gods die. So they spend their time on Earth like rock stars. It’s a pretty amazing and bold story and I have no idea where it’s going, which is awesome.
This one’s brief so I can get back to doing the final installment of “UNEARTHED: The Death of Captain Marvel”. Talk atcha soon. But first, your reality check: The greatest reveal of Critical Role, Campaign 3
